For the 20th year, Alternative Spring Break sent SNHU students to do good, meaningful work in communities outside of New Hampshire. Over the March 2024 campus spring break, 23 individuals with a passion for service set out for a week of supporting communities in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Kanab, Utah. Issue education is an integral part of Alternative Break (AB) and this year's topics varied from the effects of urban blight versus youth empowerment. The Chandler Center puts the same dedication to learning, serving, and reflecting into every trip and after 20 years, more than 500 students have accessed these life-changing opportunities.
Alternative Break has taken place at SNHU since 2004, with one main goal: to serve communities. For those who are not familiar with AB, it is a program that runs over spring break (or sometimes winter break) that brings a small group of dedicated students to a different community to serve. In the 20 years of Alternative Break, students have journeyed to 30 different states, towns, and countries through dozens of projects, learning about and positively impacting a variety of social and environmental issues.
The Chandler Center is looking to plan an Alternative Break reunion during Homecoming Weekend, inviting past participants to celebrate its 20th anniversary. More information to come.
