Meet Lacie

FY23_Student-Profiles_Lacie-Morgan,-Class-of-2024

Name: Lacie Morgan

Class of: 2024

Program: Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice w/ a concentration in Human Services and Advocacy

"Your donation to student scholarships can literally change the ability for someone to keep pursuing their education."

What do you like most about SNHU?

The flexibility the programs offer as well as the sense of family you feel when you talk to any faculty/staff or even other students.

How do the scholarships and financial aid you receive make it possible for you to attend SNHU? Specifically, how have scholarships made a difference?

As a working mom of nine kids (yes, they're all naturally mine!), income is spoken for before it has even seen our household. Being able to obtain scholarships and financial aid means that I can attend school and better myself for my family — without the worry of finances, putting our family in further debt, or having to stop going to school because I just cannot afford it.  As a parent, I would sacrifice my future before I let my kids go without, but with the help of scholarships and financial aid I don't have to choose between food, the house payments, bills, and going to school. If my laptop needs to be replaced, I wouldn't normally be able to afford that, but with a scholarship assistance I can get the school materials I need without worry.

What would you say to those who donate to support student scholarships?

THANK YOU. Your donation to student scholarships can literally change the ability for someone to keep pursuing their education.

Why did you choose Southern New Hampshire University?

I chose SNHU due to the online program availability and good reviews. I saw that SNHU offered a program I was interested in and it had wonderful success rates.

What was your hope in receiving a college education? How has your experience been different than what you’d imagined?

My hope in receiving a college education was to show my children that you can do difficult things. Your education is important, no matter how old you are. My experience has been different than what I imagined as far as it not being in person. I always thought as a child that college would be this fun, magical adventure in a dorm room and on a campus. While this isn't the way it turned out for myself, I wouldn't change it.

What inspired you to choose your area of study? What is your dream job?

I chose my area of study due to the fact I want to go into law. My dream job is to be a lawyer for the under-represented communities. I want to represent and help re-build victims of domestic violence. I want to help people find their own voice and how to use it. How to legally fight back, stand your own ground and make that noise! I would say this stems from growing up in a multi-cultural city in Arizona my whole life. I saw first hand how the lower income and communities of color are treated differently — especially when it comes to legal representation. Our legal aide system is broken, overwhelmed and under funded. I want to be that change. I want the passion that Olivia Benson on Law and Order SVU has. I saw her on television when I was a child, and I knew, I wanted to be just like her.

Who at SNHU (professor, coach, advisor, etc.) has been the biggest influence on your college experience? What lessons did that person teach you?

My professor, Dr. Alvin Abraham. He was my first criminal justice teacher and he set the mindset for me. His professional resume is amazing. It's a dream that any criminal justice/law student would love. He is full of positive motivations, he really cares and you can feel it radiate through his work. He takes pride in his class and his students.  He taught me that no matter how old you are, you can do anything even if you think you have passed the societal threshold. You can push the limits, within reason. Never be afraid to voice your opinion, you never know who is listening. Dr. Abraham and his class has stayed in my mind as other classes went on. On a day that I'm feeling blah and just want to be lazy, I hear Dr. Abraham "Come on now, you can do it!".

In what ways have you been involved at SNHU (campus organizations, job, sports, etc.)?

I've been involved at SNHU through web seminars, online meetings for different topics to help students.

What do you find most challenging? How do you deal with this?

I find that managing life and studies is difficult. I make sure I set time aside each day for certain things on my rubric and I set alarms within my calendar on my phone and computer so I don't miss important dates.

What are you proudest of?

I'm proud of my dedication and determination. I could've given up at any point in time and I have not. I'm so proud of myself for doing something that is going to better ME. Better me as a mother, wife, human and a professional.

In what ways do you want/hope to stay involved as an SNHU graduate?

Once I graduate, I want to stay involved with SNHU. I would like to maybe help run a club or organization, or teach a seminar or two. I'd like to eventually see if we could get a law program with SNHU, and be apart of that huge change. If SNHU had a law program, I would stay for graduate school.
