What went down: The SNHU Arboretum was established and accredited by ArbNet in 2016. A variety of student-led research monitoring projects take place in the space's 25-acre forested wetland. The Office of Sustainability and other SNHU community members gathered to help manually remove two invasive plant species that live on the SNHU campus.
Glossy buckthorns are shrubs or small trees that readily invade natural areas, establishing dense, even aged thickets which crowd and shade out native plants. Oriental Bittersweet is a vigorously growing vine that climbs over and smothers vegetation. Small infestations can be hand pulled, but the entire plant should be removed including all the root portions. In most cases, both species can be hand pulled.
